Tallahassee, FL — This week, a new Talking Points Memo investigation revealed that Republican nominee for HD-10, Marshall Rawson, marched with Nazis in Charlottesville, Virginia. This marks the continuation of his ties with white supremacy groups, including his decade-long affiliation with League of the South, a neo-Confederate and white supremacist hate group that advocates for the secession of Southern U.S. states.
In response, the Florida Democratic Party and the Alachua County Democratic Executive Committee released the following statement:
“First, it was the repulsive group chat at FIU where Young Republican officials used racist, antisemitic, and misogynistic slurs. Then, it was a gubernatorial candidate threatening to lynch a Black protestor. Now, it’s a Republican candidate for higher office marching alongside Nazis,” said FDP Chair Nikki Fried. “Enough is enough. Republicans need to take a stand. Either they give a home to extremists in their party or they root it out once and for all.
“Their continued inaction makes one thing clear: the Republican Party of Florida is okay with racists, antisemites, bigots, and white supremacists carrying their banner. This is not Reagan conservatism; this is hatred wrapped in a flag. I’m calling on Ron DeSantis, Byron Donalds, and Ashley Moody to denounce this behavior, or admit this is what they stand for.”
“Our community deserves better than this,” added Alachua County DEC Chair Tyler Foerst. “We don’t have to send a Nazi to Tallahassee. We’ve heard from folks all around north central Florida that they are sick of the hateful rhetoric. They want a representative who is going to fight high prices, not culture wars. That’s why we’re all working together to get Merrillee Malwitz-Jipson elected. We need a leader who will help us build a more perfect union, not a white supremacist secessionist that wants to tear our country and community apart.”
